Lync 2013 a client perspective

After the launch of Office 2013 Preview yesterday, I’ve downloaded the preview and would like to share some of my personal experiences…

After starting Lync 2013, we get a nice new interface:

Mind the NEW part as this is used when people add you to their list, nice new feature. Next to this, the Activity feed is removed.

Basic IM and Presence

When you receive multiple IM sessions, they are now tabbed as shown below

Next to this, we can easily escalate to an Audio Call, Video Call, Screen sharing or invite more people. When you hover your mouse over the Video button, you get a Video Preview as shown below.

Focussing on conferencing. Joining a meeting show similar experience as we currently have with Lync 2010. A slightly difference text…

When in the meeting, you will have multiple screen layouts. It now shows the current Active Speaker in the bottom right.

You can change it on the bottom right button:

When you deselect the Desktop or Application sharing, you will get a larger picture regarding the current speaker.

The application sharing button now allows full screen without any overhead, great experience!
