Exchange 2007 SP3 (and Rollup 1) and Forefront SP2 deployment steps

Prereqs:

Download:

Forefront for Exchange Version 10 with Service Pack 2 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2ceb14d4-404b-4d8f-8a21-ebfc71b2e82b&displaylang=en

Exchange 2007 SP3 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=1687160b-634a-43cb-a65a-f355cff0afa6&displaylang=en)

Exchange 2007 SP3 Rollup 1 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=ae45d06e-dcb7-43d8-b1ff-d3953836425b&displaylang=en)

Note for Forefront Protection for Exchange users

For those of you running Forefront Protection for Exchange, be sure you perform these important steps from the command line in the Forefront directory before and after installing this rollup. Without these steps, the Information Store and Transport services will not start.

•Before installing the rollup, disable ForeFront by using the “fscutility /disable” command

•After rollup installation completes, re-enable ForeFront by running the “fscutility /enable” command

Steps:

Work outside-in; EDGE, CAS internet facing, internal CAS, HUB, MAILBOX.

Combined CAS/HUB

  1. Stop the FSCController service, Microsoft Exchange Transport will be stopped as well.
  2. Start an administrative command prompt, go to the ForeFront installation path (Default location on 64 bit OS: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Forefront Security\Exchange Server ) and type “fscutility /disable
  3. If you have Operations Manager running, stop the OpsMgr Health Service
  4. If the server is member of an NLB cluster, Suspend the host.
  5. Start the E2K7SP3EN64.EXE and extract it to C:\Install\Exchange2007SP3
  6. Start the setup.exe for GUI based installation and follow the wizard.
  7. Start the Exchange2007-KB2279665-x64-EN.msp and follow the next next finish principle..
  8. Start the Forefront Security for Exchange, follow the next next next principle with keeping in mind that the ExchangeTransport services will be stopped and started during this setup.
  9. Start an administrative command prompt, go to the ForeFront installation path (Default location on 64 bit OS: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Forefront Security\Exchange Server ) and type “fscutility /enable
  10. If the server is member of an NLB cluster, Stop and start the host.

Perform this step for every CAS/HUB server that you have.

Mailbox – CCR

 

CCR NodeA (Passive Node):

  1. Type Get-clusteredMailboxServerStatus and verify that the CCR cluser node is not the Active or Quorum owner. Otherwise move the cluster using: Move-ClusteredMailboxServer <CLUSTERNAME> -TargetMachine <SERVERTARGET> -MoveComment “Applying update rollup”
  2. If you have Operations Manager running, stop the OpsMgr Health Service
  3. Close all Exchange Management shells.
  4. When you start the GUI based setup on the CCR node, you will get the following error:
  5. Start an administrative command prompt, go to the setup path (e.g. C:\install\Exchange2007SP3\) and type setup.com /m:upgrade
  6. Start the Exchange2007-KB2279665-x64-EN.msp and follow the next next finish principle..
  7. Start the Forefront Security for Exchange, follow the next next next principle with keeping in mind that the ExchangeTransport services will be stopped and started during this setup.
  8. Reboot the CCR clusternode and start an Exchange Management shell
  9. Type Stop-ClusteredMailboxServer MBXCLUSTER01 -StopReason “Upgrade to SP3”
  10. Type Move-ClusteredMailboxServer MBXCLUSTER01 -TargetMachine NODEA -MoveComment “Upgrade to SP3”
  11. Start an administrative command prompt, go to the setup path (e.g. C:\install\Exchange2007SP3\) and type setup.com /upgradecms

NodeB

  1. If you have Operations Manager running, stop the OpsMgr Health Service
  2. Start an administrative command prompt, go to the setup path (e.g. C:\install\Exchange2007SP3\) and type setup.com /m:upgrade
  3. Start the Exchange2007-KB2279665-x64-EN.msp and follow the next next finish principle..
  4. Start the Forefront Security for Exchange, follow the next next next principle with keeping in mind that the ExchangeTransport services will be stopped and started during this setup.
  5. Reboot the CCR clusternode and you are done!
